Abstract (English)

Combining the themes of alienation and dystopia, Carr's maze-like urban landscapes are described, by the artist, as visual metaphors for man's relationship to contemporary technological conditions. This survey of his work traces his artistic development and identifies such diverse influences as Chicago's street murals, German Expressionism and medieval manuscript illumination. Biographical notes. 20 bibl. ref.
