Abstract (English)

The authors situate McKay's work in the context of modernist avant-garde practice, 1950s-60s Canadian culture and cold war politics. McKay's place within the Regina Five and the Emma Lake Artists' Workshop is also considered in relation to how he was influenced by New York abstraction, Zen Buddhism and American pragmatism.
