Abstract (English)

Publication for MacGregor’s residency project based on a Kootenai Indians curse-lifting ceremony in Fernie, B.C. Contents include: a transcript of the speech given by James White (the artist’s grandfather) at the curse-lifting ceremony; an artist’s statement; historical notes and articles about the ceremony; transcribed conversations between the artist and individuals who witnessed the curse-lifting; and an interpretive text on MacGregor’s work by Forster. Forster situates the project within the context of MacGregor’s previous work, and suggests the artist uses an archaeological strategy to explore relations between photography and memory in the telling of history/identity. 11 bibl. ref.
