Abstract (English)

In his essay on «The Doll House» – an exhibition of works by five women artists – Marriott considers the symbolic meaning of dolls while calling attention to their ambiguous status as art objects. Emphasis is placed on the emotional and tactile characteristics of the works. M. Laliberte’s curatorial essay traces the history of dolls within popular and high culture. Topics discussed include childhood, sexuality and fantasy. Biographical notes. 4 bibl. ref.
