Abstract (English)

Darroch-Lozowski’s limited edition artist’s book consists of diary entries and drawings made while lecturing in China, as well as the “letter to all those who live in the People’s Republic of China,” written after she returned to Toronto. The diary entries tell of the artist’s daily experiences while in China: meeting with university students and professors, attending ceremonies, visiting museums, travelling to various parts of the country, etc. Numerous references are made to the devastating effects of pollution in China. In her letter to the people of China, Darroch-Lozowski reflects on issues of chaos, oblivion and emergence (primarily as they are understood within the Taoist tradition), as well as the significance of Chinese gardens. Includes Chinese calligraphy by Tin-Yum Lau (Montreal), foldout colour reproductions of the artist’s drawings and brief biographical notes.
