A publication to supplement Houle’s “Palisade” (1999), an installation comprised of eight large-scale paintings, a series of drawings and a digital graphic collage. Bell’s curatorial essay underlines the ethical dimension of Houle’s installation, while providing a detailed account of how European settlers infected the Amerindians with smallpox.
