Abundantly illustrated reference monograph on conceptual art, examining its earliest forms from the 1920’s through the most prolific period (the 1960’s), and finally its influence on the art of today. The author contextalises conceptual artists’ practices and their works, often linked to the sociopolitical situation of the era. He examines the use of language and words as primary materials and analyses specific aspects of the movement such as the use of photography and the role of female artists. Includes a glossary of terms; list of artists with biographical notes; comparative chronological chart; map indicating significant cities; index (5 p.); bibliography (3 p.).
