Abstract (English)

Essays and an interview with Blistène question the notion of a national art or a French spirit while exploring some of the historical and institutional determinants of art production in France and its relative marginalization since the 1960s. Includes a discussion of the work of 14 artists. The accompanying artist's book by Alberola and Henochsberg looks at America as myth, image, and culture. Biographical notes. Circa 470 bibl. ref.
