Abstract (English)

In his thorough fourteen-page catalogue essay, Folland traces the development of art photography and the critical discourse it has been embedded in since the seventies. A wide range of concepts are brought including Rosalind Krauss's notion of index, C.S. Pierce's linguistic semiotics, Barthes' "message without a code", Foucault's theories of discursive practice, Althusser's "Ideological States Apparatus", etc. The four works which constitute the exhibition are analysed in detail in the light of this critical context. 24 bibl. ref.
