Abstract (English)

Concentrating on Ewen's plywood paintings, this exhibition documents the development of the work's landscape imagery, from earlier abstraction, through schemata of weather systems, to the painterly evocations of light and space. Avoiding a retrospective approach to the work, the text, interspersed with the artist's commentary, focuses instead on the materials and methods used, and seeks a semiotic interpretation of the images. Profusely illustrated. Biographical notes. 61 bibl. ref.
