Abstract (English)

An extensive study of the Cowichan sweater, this monograph includes a history of Cowichan knitting, an outline of the process of preparing wool, a description of designs as well as a consideration of the knitting industry on Cowichan reserves in the 1980s. Statements by some of the artists and wearers attest to the historical and cultural significance of the sweater. 14 bibl. ref.
