Abstract (English)

Focusing on the evolution of Segal's work over the last four decades (1956-1996), Livingstone surveys the artist's itinerary and elaborates on his aesthetic and social concerns, tracing some of the movements and figures that influenced his practice (Pop Art, Minimalism, Kaprow, Cage, Duchamp). He especially reflects on the environmental sculptures inspired by everyday life, which present cast figures within "parables of the human condition." Biographical notes. Circa 120 bibl. ref.
