Abstract (English)

Payne's analysis of the digital photographs and interactive installations in an exhibition of works by nine artists from Canada and abroad, addresses the following themes: Mediations: Examining Media; Imaging the Self: Portraiture in the Digital Age; The Technologized Eye; Medical Interventions. The impact of digital imaging and communications technologies is considered in relation to issues of racial/sexual identity, representations of the body, self-autonomy, biotechnology and surveillance.
