Abstract (English)

Ritchie suggests that the eight works in this exhibition - by Canadian and international artists for whom "garbage" is subject and object of art - challenge conventional categories of "waste" and "value" by inverting the dialogical relation between high art and vernacular culture. J. Scanlan's "scrapbook on waste management and death" consists primarily of references to other artists and authors. Includes list of works. Biographical notes on artists. 149 bibl. ref.
