Résumé

Ce catalogue dévoile le résultat d'une mission photographique entreprise en 1988 par trois photographes importants et visant à faire connaître ou reconsidérer l'héritage d'Olmsted, célèbre architecte paysagiste d'Amérique du Nord. Présenté par Lambert qui, dans un esprit phénoménologique, met en relation les aménagements d'Olmsted et les points de vue multipliés par les photographes, le document comprend deux essais: l'un redevable à Costantini qui y exerce son regard d'archéologue, l'autre à Szarkowski traitant de l'art des jardins comme étant sujet aux transformations continuelles. Des extraits d'entretiens menés en juin 1995 par D. Harris avec chacun des photographes précisent la complexité d'un travail toujours personnel. Inclut une liste des sites choisis pour la mission.
