Abstract (English)

Catalogue for an exhibition of abstract paintings by ten contemporary artists from the Vancouver region. Essays by Grenville and Arnold define the curatorial theme (based on Vattimo’s philosophical concept of “weak thought”), highlighting various ways in which the works diverge from traditional models of modernist abstraction. Includes interpretive texts on each artist’s work. Topics such as embodiment, everyday life, materiality, style, and the decorative are considered in relation to questions concerning the autonomy of art and the aestheticization of experience in modern society.
