Abstract (English)

In an interpretation of Cran’s paintings which relies on Greenberg’s notion of kitsch, Tousley suggests the artist’s series of photo-based self-portraits foregrounds dialectical tensions between mass culture and high art. Nasgaard highlights the conceptual and humorous aspects of the self-portraits, stripe paintings and abstract works. Subjects of realism and abstraction are also discussed. List of works. Biographical notes. 78 bibl. ref.
