Abstract (English)

This catalogue for Pethick’s touring exhibition includes essays by Hurtig and Culley, as well as a CD-ROM which provides extensive documentation (in the form of photographs, video and audio) of previous works by the artist. Hurtig reflects on Pethick’s expanded notion of drawing, highlighting the humorous and enigmatic aspects of the artist’s investigations of optical physics/visual perception incorporating holography, real-time video and digital imaging technologies. Culley calls attention to various ways in which the artist’s drawings and “array” works resist critical analysis due to their material complexity and perceptual ambiguity. The CD-ROM includes a sound collaboration with P. Van Riper, audio statements by the artist, list of works, list of the artist’s studios and a curriculum vitae. 70 bibl. ref.
