Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany “Satiate,” a sculptural installation by Shantz consisting of domestic objects (vases, wine glasses, Jello moulds, etc.) displayed on a large altar-like table, all of which are covered in layers of tomato paste (an implicit reference to menstrual blood and the female body). Essays by Lippard and Baert situate Shantz’s practice within the context of feminist art. Material and spiritual aspects of the artist’s work are also considered in relation to the notion of a “non-patriarchal symbolic.” Biographical notes on the artist. 16 bibl. ref.
