Abstract (English)

Publication to accompany a retrospective exhibition of Hide’s sculptures from 1965-1998. Grenville’s essay provides a critical overview of the artist’s work, while drawing attention to how Hide’s sculptures “go beyond” traditional models of modernist practice (represented in the critical writings of C. Greenberg, and the work of sculptors such as A. Caro, D. Smith, and J. Gonzales). Other topics considered in relation to the artist’s work are: G. Vattimo’s concept of “weak thought,” and issues of materiality, density, accumulation and weight. List of works. Biographical notes. 5 bibl. ref.
