Abstract (English)

CD recording of three audio stories on the theme of migration, produced for German radio by a Quebec artist who has lived in Europe, and performed by three other women. The liner notes briefly trace Dumas’ career by mentioning her interest in the narrative possibilites of sound, and introduce the works’ broad themes of oceanic migration, ‘elsewhere’ and frontiers. In each story, music and text are interwoven against a backdrop of sounds from mixed sources which bring forth the migrant experience. Includes brief descriptions of the works. Texts in French, English and German. Short biographical notes on the artist and performers.

Résumé

Enregistrement sur CD composé de trois contes sonores sur le thème de la migration, conçus pour la radio allemande par une artiste du Québec ayant vécu en Europe, et interprétés par trois autres femmes. Le texte d’accompagnement retrace brièvement le parcours de Dumas en relevant son intérêt pour les possibilités narratives du son, et présente la thématique générale sous les aspects de la migration océane, de l’ailleurs et des frontières. Dans chacun des contes, musique et texte se trouvent imbriqués, et un fond sonore (bruit d’un crayon sur le papier, mouvements de l’eau ou sifflements du vent, bruits d’estampillage) sert de repoussoir aux attitudes des migrants. Le livret d’accompagnement inclut des résumés en versions française, anglaise et allemande. Courtes notices biographiques de l’artiste et des interprètes.
