Abstract (English)

An exhibition catalogue to accompany two installations by Hoffos: “Catastrophe” (1998) and “Another City” (1999). Tousley’s descriptive analysis of the installations incorporating handmade models, film, video and homemade television “projectors,” focuses on how G. Méliès’ film “A Trip to the Moon” and the first televised moonwalk have influenced Hoffos. She also discusses the artist’s interest in the film genres of horror and science fiction, and his fascination with magic, pre-film optical devices (zootropes and stereoscopes) and motion-picture special effects. List of works. Biographical notes. 52 bibl. ref.
