Abstract (English)

White describes Noguchi’s œuvre as self-representation that draws out the anxiety operative in it while also drawing the viewer into the power dynamics at work. In an interview, Noguchi talks about the process that led her at school to do her MFA thesis on violence. The artist also describes the development of her relationship with the man from whom she was taking rope-trick lessons, out of which her being his partner/target in a knife-throwing performance followed. Biographical notes. 6 bibl. ref.
