Abstract (English)

This major reference publication surveys the contemporary art production of approximately one hundred First Nations artists in Canada from 1960 to 1999. In her introduction, Acland provides First Nations’ social and cultural histories and the selection criteria used to produce this guide. Data on each visual artist (excluding digital, video and performance art) includes a brief resume, a complete bibliography, an historical overview of exhibitions and a list of collectors. Texts in French and English. Circa 3500 bibl. ref.

Cet ouvrage majeur offre une vue d’ensemble sur la production d'une centaine d'artistes autochtones au Canada, de 1960 à 1999. Dans son introduction, Acland dresse un portrait de la réalité sociale et culturelle des Premières nations et présente les critères de sélection pour ce guide. La fiche de chacun des artistes visuels (excluant art numérique, vidéo et performance) comprend un bref curriculum vitæ, une bibliographie exhaustive, un historique des expositions et une liste de collectionneurs.
