Abstract (English)

Singer’s major focus in “Wiping the War Paint of the Lens” is the emerging body of work by American Indian filmmakers in the past three decades. Depicting the involvement of Native Americans in American film history as a struggle for cultural sovereignty, Singer develops concepts of identity, expression and tradition that counter those of Euro-American culture. An argument is made for the influence of Native culture on filmmaking. Index. Cira 120 bibl. ref.
