Abstract (English)

A primer that, in simple language, addresses the problem of noise pollution and suggests solutions for it. In opposition to a vulgar culture that celebrates its own noise, Schafer stresses the importance of quiet and attempts to foster an increased sensitivity to the sound environment. He details the relationship of the private and the public in this issue, and lists organisations for concerned citizens to contact. Bibl. 1 p.
