Abstract (English)

Presents an extensive biographical chronology and descriptive catalogue of Davis’ work, and provides six exemplary texts (theory and performance) dating from 1966 to 1992. McCaskell situates her work in terms of performance art, stemming from her background in theatre and her dissatisfaction with it. Comparing the artist to contemporaries like Yvonne Rainer and John Cage, McCaskell argues that Davis expresses in her work the contingency of living in the present tense. 12 bibl. ref.
