Abstract (English)

In this catalogue, drawings by the Royal Art Lodge are thematically organised and alphabetised, creating a dictionary of received ideas. An interview with the group addresses their origin, their collective drawing process, their influences and their lo-fi aesthetics. Shaw comments on the Royal Art Lodge’s New York reception and attempts a taxonomy of their drawing styles, content, and characters. He elaborates on how the group utilises and subverts authority through dialogic humour and collaborative play. Biographical notes. 5 bibl. ref.
