Abstract (English)

This exhibition of First Nations artists addresses issues like reclamation, displacement and community. The 10 artists contribute descriptive and poetic texts on their work, while Deadman claims their practices create a new artistic language defined by native values, traditions and histories. Recounting her personal history, Prince describes the institutionalised and internalised racism and sexism she has confronted as an Aboriginal woman, as well as her experiences pursuing a career in the arts. List of works; exhibition floor plan Biographical notes. 24 bibl. ref.
