Abstract (English)

Hunter visits Lucan, Ontario, historic site of the “Black” Donnellys, an Irish immigrant family renowned for their crimes and murdered by vigilantes in the 1880s. Immortalized in folklore and pulp novels, the Donnellys are the focus of this poetic engagement with history that incorporates an installation by S. Detwiler, historical documents, and an oral, perhaps fictionalized, account and recreation of the Donnelly Dance Project, an avant-garde worker’s theatre production from the 1930s. Texts in English and French.
