Abstract (English)Published to accompany an exhibition dealing with the theme of cultural hybridization, this catalogue documents the work of three North American artists with different cultural identities. Lupien successively analyzes the sculptures, photographs and prints of African-American artist Cole, the socially informed shields of Ojibway-born artist Noganosh, and the archaeological fictions of Quebec artist Purdy. Special attention is given to the artists’ use of everyday objects. Uzel observes how the works relate to the archaic and ambiguous figure of the “trickster.” Biographical notes on artists. 26 bibl. ref.
