Abstract (English)

Exhibition catalogue examining the theme of narrative in the work of five contemporary artists. Patten considers the theme in relation to Philostratus' essays on art, the Rorschach technique, and the history of telling stories through painting. His brief descriptions of the works foreground the artists' use of non-linear narrative (through references to history, popular culture, everyday life, personal/collective memory). Dempsey and Millan's macabre short story about a headless woman and a sword-swallowing man explores desire, gender relations, dissociation, and wondering. List of works. 3 bibl. ref.
