Abstract (English)

In his examination of landscape painting by four Canadians, White deals with aspects of our current relationship to nature, aesthetic and otherwise. Beginning with a discussion of nature and the picturesque, he goes on to examine the mediating role played by the representation of nature, and the complex relationship of this work to the historic tradition of romantic landscape painting.
