Abstract (English)

Fischer outlines a history of performance, focusing on its anti-institutional beginnings, and the current lack of institutional support. Quoting Freud, Derrida and the performance text, Tuer analyses "Pure Hell" as a feminist play on notions of the phallus and castration, and gender as an issue of power. Contains short descriptions of Mars' previous works (1974-1990). Biographical notes. 64 bibl. ref.
