Abstract (English)

"This publication documents the fifth exhibition in the Southern Alberta Art Gallery's ongoing sculpture series, Continuum. It marks a departure from an examination of sculpture production in Toronto to focus on Montreal artist, Gilles Mihalcean. This work, as well as diverging geographically, represents a stance that differs significantly from previous Continuum exhibitions. Mihalcean's use of assemblage to construct his sculpture produces works that communicates through a kind of cultural shorthand. Like notebook jottings, their various found and constructed components combine to enlarge on meaning while remaining somewhat enigmatic as objects." -- p. [4] of cover.
