Abstract (English)

" On view on the Inc.’s external Cannon Project Wall, Breaking News consists of a series of hand tinted self-portrait photographs that satirize the format and content of news reports. Through parody and caricature, heavy subject matter such as abduction, flood, disaster, televised suicide, and dictatorship are depicted in a surreal and jocular newsroom simulation. While the images are bright and enticing, the installation demands serious contemplation of how individuals in power and mainstream media work hand-in-hand to undermine the integrity and veracity of current events.
