Abstract (English)

Harrison traces the continuity of Art & Language's collaborative practice between 1968 and 1987, emphasizing their attempt to recover the dialectical imperative of modernism by employing anonymity, irony, and mystification, in a critique of the euphemisms of capitalism. Referring to realism, dialectics, and the museum as the voice of bourgeois democracy, Roberts analyses Art & Language's museum paintings of 1985 to 1987. Chronology of exhibitions. Circa 250 bibl. ref.
