Abstract (English)

In her interpretation of multi-media works by seven artists, Gilbert uses Jacques Attali's association of noise with fragmentation and heterogeneity, as well as the feminist identification of the tongue as the site of voice, speech, sound, intimacy and the personal. Issues of cultural and sexual identity, colonization, the family, and media assimilation are discussed. Biographical notes. 77 bibl. ref.
