Abstract (English)

Stals introduces an exhibition focused on the use of the camera in a critical exploration of reality rather than for picturesque ends. Wall examines the cultural traditions that historically formed artistic attitudes in Vancouver, presenting Lum's work as rejecting those trends. Linsley explores the literary and oriental aspects of B.C. art. Wallace discusses his career since 1967 with reference to his painted monochromes juxtaposed to photographs of the city. Stals focuses on the syntax of images, investigating cinematic montage theory. 12 bibl. ref.
