Abstract (English)

Posner defines Kirkeby's paintings and drawings of the 1980s as gestural abstractions rooted in northern European landscape. Formally and biographically, she embeds his work in an art-historical context going from German romanticism, 19th Century Scandinavian landscape painting, and abstract expressionism to contemporary neo-expressionism, passing by way of his work in performance and film.
