Abstract (English)

Lavishly illustrated with archival material from commercial catalogues, magazines and advertisements, this eight-chapter monograph addresses the history of 20th century kitchen and bathroom design in America as it relates to social attitudes toward domestic "science" housekeeping, labour division, consumption patterns, family structure, public health, hygiene, waste, aesthetics and mechanization. Includes a two-page chronology on water, waste, and electrical systems. Circa 150 bibl. ref.
