Martin narrates Janvier's life and career, focusing on such topics as the difficulty of becoming established as a Native artist, Janvier's experience within governmental agencies devoted to Native affairs, and the shift to figuration as a political means. Houle examines the contemporary context for Janvier's work, exploring the issues of the use of Native art by contemporary artists, government legitimation of Native production, and Native spirituality.
