Abstract (English)

Three texts explore two works commissioned of Buren by the Centre Georges Pompidou. Buchloh examines state subsidy of art, monumental sculpture, and decoration in Buren's work; Lyotard assesses realism in connection with "the invisible within the visual"; and Martin outlines the history of the commissions and the official and public response to these works. With a statement by the artist.
