Abstract (English)

Reich surveys his career as a composer with reference to his principal influences, discussing such things as the musical work conceived as a "process," phase shifting, non-Western music (Ghanaian drumming and Balinese gamelan), and dance. A rythmic analysis and often critical assessment of some ten pieces from 1967 to 1973 (with score excerpts) is offered by the composer. Lists of works and recordings.
