Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany a group exhibition concerned with the significance of the vessel as form of cultural expression. In his curatorial essay Tyler suggests the vessel should be considered a genre of artistic expression. He outlines the functional, decorative and spiritual characteristics of the works presented, while tracing the history of the vessel and its connection to the human body. Includes diagram naming the parts of a typical vessel. List of works. 51 bibl. ref.
