Abstract (English)

In his curatorial essay on the self-portrait in contemporary photography, which accompanies a group exhibition of works selected to represent his personal view of the theme, Goodrow considers the various implications that this genre involves (for artist and viewer). He explores how the self-portrait is a “construct” which transcends the ego of the artist and describes how each of the16 artists uses the genre to specific ends, be they political, sexual, voyeuristic, etc. Brief biographical notes on artists. 14 bibl. ref.
