Abstract (English)

A catalogue to accompany the third project in the 2000/2001 exhibition series “100% Natural,” organized by the Textiles Museum of Canada. Beesley’s essay focuses on the significance of the materials and techniques used by the participants (designers and scientific researchers) in this interdisciplinary exhibition. He suggests that the works in “On Growth and Form” explore relationships between nature/science and craft/technology by using fibres composed of hybrid materials and structural systems drawn from disciplines of textiles, architecture and medicine. MacHenry provides brief descriptions of each participant’s work. Includes a glossary of textile terms. 7 bibl. ref.
