Abstract (English)Conceived as an exhaustive reference guide destined for an international clientele, this arts directory (which is part of a series of 11 publications on Southern Africa countries) represents more than 800 organizations and institutions in South Africa. Including both governmental and independent bodies, the book is divided into nine categories ranging from the performing and visual arts to artistic training, heritage sites and arts funding. Each entry provides the names and coordinates of the appropriate contact person, practical information (business hours, etc.), as well as a brief history of the institution, and a description of its mandate and activities. Includes an introductory section on political, historical and cultural aspects of the country, and information on possibilities of international cultural exchange.
