Abstract (English)

A companion volume to an exhibition catalogue of the same title, this book presents the proceedings of a conference focusing on art by writers and writing by artists. A poem by D. Walcott and essays by J. Bartlett, B. Breytenback and T. Phillips call attention to diverse issues pertaining to the notion of "the dual muse." Questions concerning the limitations and possibilities of form are considered in relation to the merging of literature and art, poetry and painting, word and image. Includes transcribed panel discussions, list of illustrations, list of works in the exhibition and biographical notes on artists/authors. 77 bibl. ref.
