Abstract (English)

Fleming’s summary of the ethics and aesthetics of Arden’s work is typified by the photo documents of the “Landscape of the Economy” which make visible the conflictual aspects of urban and suburban life. Steiner argues that formal elements in Arden’s works, in particular the ambiguous figure/ground relationships within them, make their unique brand of realism difficult to interpret, and thus problematize representational practice and the act of making meaning.
